Electronics

Problem: The Get Ready Get Thru website says that we need an emergency survival kit and at the top of the list is a torch and spare battery. At Electronics I am going to design and make an emergency light for myself.

Fever

In class we read this journal that had lost of different stories in it but the one that we read was Fever by Rita Hopkins. It is a story a bout this girl who is going on came with her class to this old abandoned hospital where people in the olden days would go with hope that they would get better, but most of them never came home. Carly the main character in this story starts to get scared and doesn't want to go to camp because of the scary ghost stories but she also wants to go so she can learn how to milk a cow. After the ghost stories Carly starts feeling sick and gets a fever

Redskin Persuasive Writing

We had to wright a persuasive text on redskin lollies, to persuade Mr Billings to buy us redskins and why.

Redskins Writing

  • I need redskins because I have finished all of my homework and have handed them in on time and are up to a high standard.
  • I need them so bad because I deserve them after all of the hard work that has gone into my homework that it's just not far that I get no reward for my work.
  • They have a great raspberry kind of taste, and are confectionary. They are sugary and gives you lots of energy. They are small sized so you can eat them wherever you want.

I need redskins. I need redskins because of all of my hard work and achievements in my homework.

Every week I have handed in my homework and it has been up to a high standard. It has always been in on time and never late. It is always high quality work. I always make sure that it is up to the standard every time, but now since I have done all of that hard work I don't know about you but I think I deserve a reward.

I need them so bad because if you don't give them to me I will get very angry. After doing some hard work that you have done and you get no thanks or anything except for maybe a sticker or something that says “ great job, well done,” that doesn't feel like it is enough. That's when the redskins come into play. You see after doing all of that hard work that took so long that you did in your own time, there is a need for a reward. I have completed all of the homework for this whole term and have done it to high quality. Now I need a little something to show me that my teacher appreciates my work.

Redskins are a great confectionary treat that is A.K.A (also known as) lollies. Many people buy them like my teacher to eat when the kids in our class aren't looking, and then other people buy them as a treat for their kids or something like that. They have a great raspberry flavour to them and are chewy and yummy. They give you a lot of energy and give you that satisfaction to know that you have done well with you work.

This is why I deserve redskins. We won't get them all the time but if we use them as a little bit of encouragement maybe that will help with better learning for future.

Hard Materials

In hard materials we made key tags. Mine was a saddle. We had to have a person that we were going to give the ketag to

Furnware Trip

Earlier this term we went to Furnware in hastings as for our inquiry is innovation. Furnware is a place were they make a sorts of cool teacher furniture for schools around the world.Three class's went on two busses to Furnware. Once we got there we sat down and they told us that we were going to be going in three groups. Our class first went to the designing room and designed our own table for our class. We were only drawing the designs and coming up with ideas though. We shared them to the group and then we went to the constructing area.

We next went to the constructing area we we watch the furniture being made. It was really interesting watching how it as all being made and just the process involved too, was really cool. Our group started in the middle of the factory. We saw were the chair legs and things are painted and getting checked and ready for shipping and sale. The first group started in the front of the factory at the beginning and the third group started at the packaging area were they are getting ready for shipping.

Finally we went into the room at the front of the building and learnt about Furnware and the beginning of it and all sorts of facts.

Technology USB

In tech this term our big goal was making our USB. My design was a horse.
We had to first plan our USB. We did that by drawing an idea of what we wanted our USB to like like. My first idea was a horse since it is my favourite animal and I love riding horses too. My idea was that I wanted the horse to be galloping down the field. My second idea was that I wanted to do Mc Donald fries, because they are my favourite food. We second had to write down the attributes to our chosen design, and chose three that you really wanted to focus on. We next went to one of the computers and using 2d design we created the shape on the computer. We had to to trace the out line with red, which means that part is going to be cut. Then using black coloured lines we put then on the parts of the shape that we wanted to engrave. Once we had completed the whole shape we had to make another two by copy and pasting them. After that we had one shape with all of the engravment and stuff, a second with just the

Monday Mornings

Monday mornings is a story about Josh Miller and his Monday mornings. Josh Miller wakes up and slowly gets out of bed get his lunch box out of the fridge and then on his way down the path on the way to school he sees a soccer ball and assumes it is the neighbors. So he kicks the ball over the fence and then he dose a victory dance until he heres the sound of glass smashing and then hurry alone to school. Walks through the crowds and hurries into class.

  • It makes us seem that he is a child because he smashes a ball thought he window and doesn't own up to what he did
  • He eats chocolate in the morning before school
  • He throughs his alarm clock in the morning witch is not very mature
None of these things seem like he is very mature
Then in the end we find out that he is actually not a kid he is the teacher in the class.

Persuasive writing

Rm 11 have been doing some persuasive writing. We had to chose a subject on what we wanted to write about. Mine was, Should school start later in the morning? Here is my writing

Persuasive writing

Planning
  • No because your brain is fresh and ready to go in the morning after a good night        sleep
  • No because it is getting us used to waking up early and used to a routine
  • No because adults have to wake up early in the morning and get to work and on the way they would probably drop their kids off at school
  • Parents don’t get time to laze around in the morning and wait round for there time to head off to work they go to work come home and then they get to relax

Should schools start later in the morning?

I think that schools shouldn't start later than they already are.

Schools times should stay the way they are. For example my school opens at 8:15am  and actually starts at 8:45am and then finishes at 3:00pm. If we changed the time from 8:45 well it just won't work out, if it started at maybe 11:15 then it's too late in the day and it will have to end later in the day like when it’s dark at night.

If say they did change the time back a couple of hours yes to some people it would make the day feel shorter but to others like me whose body clock wakes me up, the day would feel super long and tiring. Because if you think about if say school starts at 11:15 it will probably end around 5 or 6 at night which would mean it would be dark and cold especially in winter. If the kids were only in Primary there parents would need to come pick the kids up because it would be getting dark and little 7 year olds can't walk home by themselves at night. Once they are home they would eat dinner and then go to bed and then wake up a couple of hours later and do it all a gain.

When you wake up in the morning your brain is fresh and ready to go to start a school day. Your up and going and you have a good breakfast then you get to school and have maths and writing in the morning. The reason why the school has maths and writing in the first block is because you brain is fresh and ready to learn; most of the time anyway. Where as is the school started later on in the day you brain would be ready but not as fresh as it was when you first woke up.

The reason why the I think the time is as it is, is because it works with the parents in the morning because they have to go to work. They wake up the kids get them already for school and then, get themselves ready for work. I guess it just works because then they drop the kids at school and then head to work. If the kids are old enough to walk home from school and get into the house then the parents can come home from work a bit later because they know the kids will be safe. But if they aren't old enough the parents have to come and pick them up.

The kids would get themselves used to a routine waking up early and get ready for school, wear as is they went to school later they would laze around the house and watch TV until it is time for school. They would have time to stuff around and do things but realistically if the school times did go back and start later I guess there is an up to it as well. The upside would be that they could study before school and then if they have an exam they are ready for it. But I still think that the time should stay as the time is.

My opinion would be keep the way the time is for many reason because it's the way it has been for so long and I don’t think that the time should be changed to later. So If someone asked me if they think the time should go back to being later I would give them a big fat

NO!

Food Tech, Mama Mia Pizza

My Virtual Pizza
For our first term of tech we had food tech and our big goal at the end of the term was the Mama Mia Pizza. We got given a booklet and had to write down our concepts and ideas. We also had to write down a lot of other things like the flavour and texture that we wanted and what ingredients we needed to bing to make the pizza. My cooking partner was Isabella and we made our Mama Mia Pizza in the shape of a microphone but it didn't really turn out in the shape of a microphone. It ended up more like a big floppy ice cream but it tasted really great. On our pizza we had pineapple, cheese, BBQ sauce, tomato, capsicum and ham. The pineapple added a fruity tangy taste to the meatiness from the BBQ sauce. Here are some pictures of use making the pizza. We made the pizza base out of scone dough and then had to roll it out and make it into the shape that we wanted .

Sheppard Art Trip

On week 8 we went on our hole house art trip to the Hastings race track art exhibition and the Napier museum. First we went to the Hastings race track and had a look at their art exhibition.

My favourite piece was 2 Speed by
Judy Woodam. It was a racehorse and jockey zooming down the track and where coming in first place by the looks. I liked the texture that she used with flicks of paint to give it that speed look about it. If the artist was there I would have asked her why she painted that piece of art and what was her inspiration. When we came back from the art exhibition we had to have a favourite piece of art that we wanted to replicate. This is my art so far. I couldn't get a picture of it fully done because it was in our art exhibition. I used a horse running freely in the wild rather than a horse on the race track with a jockey on his back.

I also loved picture number 95, A Island Bare, by Sonia Crystal. I loved the look that this piece of art showed and the texture. The artist used squares for the sky as a different kind of look and appeal. In this art piece the island is in the distance on the horizon and the water is bobbing away with the sun shinning down on the water. The artist also used different shades of blue for the water to show where the sun is shinning. Its a very calm and collective picture and it makes you feel happy if you were looking at it.

We also went and had a look at the Napier Museum and there art.

This piece of art was created by Ian Scott and is called, 59 Lattice acrylic on canvas. I loved this art work because it is abstract yet using simple tones, colours and shapes in and affective way, it gave a smart look about it. What I wasn't expecting was the bold and bright colors because I thought that it would have been bland and boring.

There were also other interesting pieces of art and sculptures and just lots of interesting things to see at the museum. I realy enjoyed the hole day out on the art trip it gave me a lot of inspiration for any art I do in the future.

Character Descriptions

We have started to do some character descriptions this term on character traits. We had to come up with there looks, sound and there actions. For example, steam was coming out of her ears. We had to write a character trait story on anger and happy. Heres my story.

Angry

Jenna's face was as red as tomato. Her eyebrows pointing like a boomerang. Her face was so red that the fire brigade nearly came. She was so angry that she was growling long and low like a jaguar. Thrashing the counter with her fist she screamed so loud that the aliens on Mars could hear her. All because they didn't have her favourite pink lips tip.

We also had to make a happy one to.

Happy

Jumping up and down skipping along the path Kim swished her hair from one side to the other. Her eyes sparkling like a thousand diamonds nearly blinding all the people but her. She was laughing like a hyena, or other people may have thought she was cackling like a witch. But to her today was the best day ever.

Catapults

For maths we have been learning about measurement. For our measurement maths unit we made catapults out of wood, nails, spoons and rubber bands. Mr B cut up the wood and then we chose a piece for our catapults. We measured the perimeter of the wood and measured how far we wanted our nails to be in from the side. A couple of days later we made our catapults and then on Friday and Monday we tested our catapults.
Perimeter=56cm
Width=15cm
Length=25.5cm
This is the graph that I made to show how far the things flew.
On the fourth go the blue bead flew that farthest. It went 10 meters and 90 centimeters The farthest that the yellow bead flew was 7 meter. The stones farthest was 60 centimeters and the twigs farthest was 1 meter. We made these catapults to burn down Hillary but in the end we didn't do that.

Character Trait

Through this term we have been mainly focusing on character trait descriptions for writing. We first had to make a hamburger plan sheet and then put our ideas down on it. The character that I wanted to describe was a wolf in the night time.

The Wolf

The night fog was rolling in out from the east as it cast a spell on the night making the forest disappear and then I laid my eyes on him. Walking through the fog like a mysterious creature he came from in the dark forest to meet me, but was weary on how close he got. His soft blue eyes the size of marbles where looking me up and down. They attracted me to him to go closer and pat him but as soon as I moved he bared his sharp white teeth at me. He was only defending himself because he thought I was a threat, but when he realized I wasn’t one he sat down on the cold snow. The grey-white coat of fur looked so soft like the snow he was sitting on, or like cotton candy freshly spun. His ears perked forward in the direction of a howl and he howled back under the moon. I thought it must have been his mate and I think it was. He suddenly jumped up on all four paws and made new footprints in the snow. The footprints he made in the snow where a little bit smaller than my hand. He was a stocky build, one that would be able to chase his prey easily. He turned at me and bowed as if he was saying “thank you for not hurting me.” Then he ran into the illuminated night sky and rustled the bushes with his tail. He was the Great Grey Wolf.

My Mihi

We have been creating our mihi in this term . We have been doing it to get know each other. It is very special as for it has our river home and family.
